Sonia Welford b.1975 Polish, Self-Taught
Currently lives and works in London. Welford's artworks are recognised mainly by monochromatic and dark tones with surface layers and mixed media. With abstract expression and emotional thoughts, Welford creates a connection with the viewer and believes in telling stories using colours, forms, textures, scratched lines, smudges, brush strokes, shadows and light. Self-taught processes in her work, unfolding stories, and borders create deep visual and emotional balance as she believes emotions help us live more fulfilling lives. Welford's work is also recognised in various forms such as three-dimensional with aesthetic design, focusing on bringing calmness into space. Welford loves the curved lines that add softness and comfort as they are more organic and adopt more beautiful nature-inspired shapes. Welford's artwork has collectors in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Hong Kong. Artist statement. In my work, I am fascinated by telling stories using forms, layered surfaces, brush strokes and talking through shadows and light. My work is drawn from the many ways in human emotions. Each work is a part for my soul, of who I am and what I feel. Communicating via metaphor in my abstract creations I try to create a sense of connection within the viewer. Ultimately with each piece, I build emotions into my work and add a soulful connection helping my viewers to find the answers in my work. I find balance in my work with various forms. My three-dimensional minimalistic artworks bring calmness where the curved lines play such an important aesthetic role, while abstract on canvas gives me the freedom to truly communicate my thoughts. |
